Our Core Values
Professionalism
Our practice values professionalism and excellence in clinical skills. Dr. Robison has maintained board certification in general adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and pursues clinical excellence in every interaction with patients.
Each clinician in this office also maintains continuing education in order to provide high quality care for their patients. They have years of experience and have developed an expertise in several clinical areas. They are valued regionally for their excellence.
Relationship
Our practice values relationship. At a time when health care systems are becoming more and more impersonal, our practice continues to be built on the essential therapeutic nature of the clinician/patient relationship. Providing efficient care is important, but any “system of care” that compromises this core relationship is unacceptable.
Caregivers
In our practice, we recognize that we are caregivers, not cure givers. We will, to the best of our ability and professionalism, evaluate, identify, and treat an array of biopsychosocial problems. We do not have healing in a pill or therapeutic technique. We recognize that the greatest things we can offer those who come to us are respect, security, compassion, and hope.
Sacred Space
Though we are not cure givers, we recognize that when we offer respect, security, compassion, and hope to those who enter into a relationship with us, and when they in turn accept and offer to the best of their ability the same respect, security, compassion, and hope, there are times that sacred space is created.
We believe that sacred space is a place to explore and experience the reality of God and become all we were created to be. Though we do not possess healing nor can we give it, we believe that there are times in sacred space in which healing can occur. Not in some supernatural way, but in a deeply personal and transcendent manner.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide excellence in outpatient mental health care to the Southeast Missouri region. We seek to provide care to adults, children, adolescents, and families with an array of struggles ranging from numerous mental health diagnoses, family and life transition struggles, and those seeking emotional and spiritual growth.
Our goal is to develop a long-term relationship with our clients. This relationship is not from a perspective of endless weekly therapy sessions, but rather from what could be called a “primary mental health care model”.
We see ourselves developing long-term relationships with patients and families to provide support through the many stages of life and whatever challenges come their way.
Structure
Our practice is structured very simply, based on the core values and mission statement noted above. Our therapists typically see patients for hour weekly sessions, although as noted above, our goal is not necessarily long-term weekly therapy but to provide services fitting the need of the patient and family and maintaining contact with the patient and family over the many ups and downs of life.
Psychiatric services are provided in the following manner: Children are scheduled for two hour initial evaluations in which they are seen individually and their parents are interviewed. Adults are scheduled for a two hour initial evaluation. Follow-up, in general, is scheduled for a thirty minute medication management/psychotherapy visit monthly. As patients stabilize, the frequency of visits may at times be decreased to every two to three months. There is also opportunity for patients to be seen for hour visits to provide more in-depth individual or family therapy.
Each clinician has the opportunity to develop and practice in their own areas of expertise and interests. The most consistent overarching theoretical perspective that we all share is family systems therapy, but each incorporate various other therapeutic perspectives in their work. One of our therapist works with a large population of eating disorder patients. One of our therapist has extensive training in play therapy and theraplay. She is also a play therapy instructor. And, one of our therapist is trained in providing neurofeedback therapy.
We operate a fee-for-service practice. We do not bill or accept third party payments. All of our clients pay for services at the time they are seen, and it is the responsibility of our clients to make arrangements for reimbursement through third party payers.
